Skulls returned to Namibia

Its not often that Namibia makes the international news, but the return from Germany of 20 skulls of Herero and Nama Namibians who were killed during the genocide (1904-1908) has made international headlines. The skulls were brought to Germany after the genocide in order to do experiments to prove German racial superiority. After years of negotiation, the skulls have finally been repatriated. While the repatriation of the skills is generally seen as a positive event in post-colonial reconciliation, there are still many people who would like to see Germany pay monetary reparations for the damage they inflicted on Namibia during their colonization. Also, many members of the Namibian delegation that went to Germany to get the skulls felt insulted by the treatment of the German officials they met there. Read more about the repatriation, the reception in Germany, and the demand for reparations in stories in Namibia's 3 main daily English language newspapers.
